City of Plano Water Conservation Measures - Stage 1
Effective 4/19/11 to 10/31/11
The City of Plano is requesting that residents do their part to protect and extend our water supply by using only the water they need. Some ways you can help to reduce your water usage are:
- Remember that landscape and lawn irrigation is prohibited from 10AM to 6 PM beginning April 1 through October 31.
- Find and fix water leaks inside and outside your house.
- Pick up free water saving devices such as low flow showerheads, kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators, toilet leak detection tablets, toilet flappers, shower timers, and rain gauges by visiting Customer & Utility Services at the Municipal Center, located at 1520 K Avenue or the Joint Use Facility, located at 7501-A Independence Parkway, Monday-Friday from 8AM-5PM.
- The City also offers credit on your utility bill for the installation of Watersense-approved high efficiency toilets, rain barrels, and rain/freeze sensors on existing irrigation systems. For more information, visit: http://plano.gov/Departments/Environmental%20Services/greenliving/waterconservation/Pages/WaterRebate.aspx
- Excessive water run-off from irrigation systems is prohibited. The City encourages residents to turn their automatic sprinkler controllers from Automatic to Manual and practice the soak-cycle method of irrigation, which not only saves water, but is better for your lawn. The City also encourages the use of low-water use native plants in new landscaping. For more information on the soak cycle method and native plants, please visit the "Saving Water Outdoors" webpage.

In response to resident feedback on the water map designed for watering restrictions in Stage 2, the Plano City Council has made a change to the watering restrictions. In order to achieve the 5% reduction in use, irrigation watering should be programmed for two days per week based on the building’s address.
- Even number - Monday and Thursday
- Odd number - Tuesday and Friday
Note:
Watering is still prohibited between 10:00am-6:00pm. Watering with drip irrigation systems, soaker hoses or by hand is not restricted any day or time.
